1. Parks and Biking Trails
Pull your bikes out of their winter slumber or rent some at one of the local bike shops and set out on an exploration of Wilmington’s parks and biking trails. Check out the 15-mile Gary Shell Cross-City Trail.
While on the trail, you’ll be able to access recreational, cultural, and educational destinations or go straight to the viewing area for the Intracoastal Waterway.
Another choice is Blue Clay Bike Park, the recently-updated extensive bike trail. It has eight miles of trails suitable for any level.
Pick up the River to Sea Bikeway in downtown Wilmington, NC and ride from there to Wrightsville Beach. It’s an 11-mile ride that will take you on- and off-road along the Historic Beach Car Line.
While there are a few beaches from which to choose, the one most conveniently located in Wilmington is Wrightsville Beach. It’s at the end of Causeway Drive and home to higher-end hotels and restaurants.
Looking for something a little more low-key? Carolina Beach has an amazing boardwalk, great beach bars and restaurants, and is about a 30-minute drive from Wilmington.
3. The Arts
Do you enjoy the art scene? You’ll find galleries, museums, theaters, and historical architecture in the area. Check out the Opera Wilmington, the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra, the Cape Fear Museum of History and Science, and the Brooklyn Arts Center.
You can also enjoy public sculptures as you stroll the city’s downtown streets.
4. North Carolina Azalea Festival
You can find azaleas growing wild all over the state. Wilmington hosts the Azalea Festival over five days each year which includes a parade, Queen Azalea coronation, live entertainment and concerts, and more.
Hit one of the beautifully manicured golf courses the Wilmington area has to offer like the championship course at Beau Rivage Golf & Resort. Amateur or more experienced golfer? There’s something for everyone.
